How to brighten up a student bedroom

It’s that time of year again when those fresh-faced students head off to the wide, wide world of university with hopes and dreams of university life and the excitement of Fresher’s Week.
And are immediately confronted with a faceless dorm - an uninviting box room, usually with drab surroundings, facing onto a brick wall or overlooking the bins at the back of the university. However you can make it feel more like home very quickly!
Follow our Top 10 Tips for brightening a student bedroom:
1) Bring plenty of photographs of friends and family from home - this will bring a smile to your face especially if you’re feeling a little homesick
2) Buy a couple of posters to cover up the blank walls - remember the blu-tack! Posters of your favourite films, locations, and celebs will cheer up a bare wall
3) Bring your own bed linen - there’s nothing like your own bedding, pillows and duvets to make you feel at home
4) Buy some bean bag furniture - Swap your boring-yet-functional university furniture with a couple of cool and bright bean bags - creating a super comfy area to relax, chill out or maybe even read a textbook if you’re feeling studious! These Bazaar Bags or Indoor/Outdoor Gaming beanbags would be perfect.
5) Take a small TV with you - a portable TV or DVD player will help you relax and will probably make you friends very quickly especially when Eastenders is on!
6) Persuade your mum to treat you to some fresh flowers - you probably won’t be able to afford them throughout the year but a vase of flowers really freshens up a room and brings of splash of colour and scent
7) Buy some cheap cushions - visit a trip to Ikea or Matalan to stock up on cheap and cheerful cushions and throws to soften those drab colours
8 ) Fly your flag - bring your national flag or a flag of your football team to pin up on your wall - a great talking point and also helps you to belong to part of a community
9) Create some door messages - welcome your visitors with a note on a white board or chalkboard . You can leave messages for your friends in your hall (some suggestions: back at 4.30 or don’t steal my milk!)
10) Improve your lighting - a stark ceiling light saps energy and vibrancy from any colour scheme, so collect a couple of funky desk lamps or a bedside table lamp which will help create atmosphere
